Nothing could have been more perfect for this couple. Okay, wait—let me explain: as a wedding photographer, I always say that whatever shows up on the day is perfect. So whether it was the light drizzle during their civil ceremony or this celebration under full sunshine, there’s no competition.

Some will prefer one style, others will lean toward sipping cocktails, listening to soft music, basking in the sun that gently kisses the skin under a silky, cloudless sky by the river that separates Switzerland from Germany and France. All of that took place in an industrial-style venue that served as the backdrop for Lena and Fabian’s incredible wedding celebration—while exquisite drinks and hors d’oeuvres flowed alongside hugs and heartfelt congratulations.

And when you add the fact that no one was missing—everyone who was meant to be there was present—family and friends specially chosen by the couple came together, and love songs moved even the photographer. Speeches brought the couple to tears. Heart-shaped balloons with handwritten messages were released into the sky, carrying wishes of happiness wherever the wind would take them. Honestly, I think that made it all pure perfection for everyone. It allowed things to simply flow, just as they were meant to.

Because there are many things we cannot control: one of them is red balloons drifting in the wind; another is love—when it arrives, and we choose to say Yes.

We also can’t control the celebrating, the laughter, the tears, the sharing, or the quiet reflection about what has brought us to this very moment. What were the wishes and dreams that led us here, and how hard did we fight to make them real?
